Resistance report for events of sunday 6 january 2008 :

Rockets slam into US base east of al-Fallujah saturday evening 
In a dispatch posted at 10:30am Baghdad time Sunday morning, the Yaqen News Agency reported that the US “al-Mazra‘ah” base to the east of al-Fallujah, 60km west of Baghdad, came under violent barrage late on Saturday evnining.  Five powerful explosions were heard to rock the American-occupied facility.
Yaqen reported a source in the al-Fallujah puppet police as saying that the blasts that shook the base late Saturday were the result of a rocket attack.  The source provided no further details and as of the time of reporting, the American side had issued no report on the attack.

US admits american soldier killed in sunday bomb attack in southern Bagdad
In a dispatch posted at 10:30pm Baghdad time Sunday night, the Yaqen News Agency reported that the US military had admitted that one more of its soldiers had been killed and three more wounded in Baghdad on Sunday.
Yaqen reported a US statement as announcing that a bomb exploded near a US military vehicle during combat operations to the south of Baghdad on Sunday.

Sectarian murder spree continues : six bodies recovered around Bagdad sunday
In a dispatch posted at 7:40pm Baghdad time Sunday night, the Yaqen News Agency reported that the Iraqi puppet police recovered the bodies of six more victims of sectarian murder that had been dumped in various parts of Baghdad on Sunday.

Bombs kill one in eastern Bagdad car lot sunday afternoon
In a dispatch posted at 4:50pm Baghdad time Sunday afternoon, the Yaqen News Agency reported that a bomb exploded inside a car sales lot in the eastern Baghdad district of an-Nahdah Sunday afternoon.
Yaqen reported a source in the puppet police who asked not to be identified as saying that the bomb killed one person and wounded four more in varying degrees of severity in addition to damaging several cars on the lot.  The injured were taken to the nearest hospital for first aid.
In a dispatch posted on its Arabic website at 8:10pm Sunday night Beijing time (3:10pm Baghdad time), the Xinhua News Agency reported that three bombs had exploded in the car lot, killing one person and wounding four more.

Car bomb kills puppet policeman in eastern Bagdad sunday 
In a dispatch posted at 1:20pm Baghdad time Sunday afternoon, the Yaqen News Agency reported that a car bomb that had been parked by the side of a road in the al-Qahirah neighborhood of eastern Baghdad exploded at midday Sunday.
Yaqen reported a source in the puppet police as saying that the blast set a number of civilian cars on fire and killed three people, one of them a puppet policeman.

Bomb kills puppet army troops in Bagdad sunday 
In a dispatch posted at 1pm Baghdad time Sunday afternoon, the Yaqen News Agency reported that a bomb exploded by puppet Iraqi army troops during celebrations of the Iraqi Army Day in the al-Karradah district of eastern Baghdad on Sunday.
Yaqen reported the explosion took place outside the offices of a non-governmental organization that was hosting a party in honor of the puppet army.  High-ranking officers and puppet regime officials were reportedly in attendance, but no information on any casualties among them was available.
In a dispatch posted at 2:43pm Sunday afternoon, the Yaqen News Agency reported that the number of casualties in the bombing had risen to nine dead and 17 wounded according to the puppet police who said that the explosion took place when a person wearing an explosive belt blew himself up at the celebration, which was being held near ‘Uqbah ibn Nafi‘ Square in al-Karradah.

US admits death of one more american soldier in Iraq saturday
In a dispatch posted at 10:43am Baghdad time Sunday morning, the Yaqen News Agency reported that the US military admitted that one more of its troops had been killed somewhere in Diyala Province.
Yaqen reported the US statement as announcing that a bomb exploded by an American patrol somewhere in the 17,685 square kilometers of Diyala Province on Saturday.  One US soldier died of wounds sustained in that attack, the Americans admitted.  In keeping with the US policy of concealing information regarding American losses in Iraq, however, the US statement provided no further details regarding the death.

Collaborationist official gunned down in northeastern Bagdad sunday morning
In a dispatch posted at 10:35am Baghdad time Sunday morning, the Yaqen News Agency reported that armed fighters shot and killed an official in the collaborationist “Awakening” police in the ash-Sha‘b district of northeastern Baghdad on Sunday morning.
Yaqen reported a source in the puppet police as saying that armed men in a late-model car opened fire on Isma‘il ‘Abbas, an official in the “Awakening” collaborationst group in ash-Sha‘b after he emerged from his home.  ‘Abbas was killed on the spot.

Resistance battles US troops in Tikrit, ad-Dawr sunday
In a dispatch posted at 6:50pm Baghdad time Sunday night, the Yaqen News Agency reported that fighting took place between US troops and armed fighters in the city of Tikrit, 180km north of Baghdad, and in the area of ad-Dawr (150km north of Baghdad) near the home of ‘Izzat Ibrahim ad-Duri, successor of Saddam Husayn as President of Iraq and head of the Baath Party.
Yaqen reported that fierce fighting broke out between Iraqi Resistance men and US troops in Tikrit on Sunday afternoon when Resistance men fired two armor-piercing rocket-propelled grenades at a US patrol on al-Basha street in the eastern part of the city.  That attack disabled one patrol vehicle and sparked a battle, after which US troops closed off the area and prevented any information on the nature or extent of casualties from leaking out.
Meanwhile, a bomb exploded under a US patrol in ad-Dawr, near the home of ‘Izzat Ibrahim ad-Duri.  Afterwards, Resistance men pounced on the patrol.  After the battle, US forces closed off the area and prevented any information on the nature or extent of US casualties from being reported there.

US troops patrolling Bayji 
In a dispatch posted at 12:35pm Baghdad time Sunday afternoon, the Yaqen News Agency reported that US troops together with their puppet police allies have begun running foot patrols in the market in Bayji, 200km north of Baghdad.
Yaqen reported that US forces suffer losses virtually every week as a result of such patrols.

Three puppet policemen severely wounded in bomb attack in Kirkuk sunday morning
In a dispatch posted at 9:57am Baghdad time Sunday morning, the Yaqen News Agency reported that a bomb exploded by a puppet police vehicle in the “90 neighborhood” of southern Kirkuk, 250km north of Baghdad on Sunday morning.
Yaqen reported Lieutenant ‘Ammar al-‘Ubaydi of the Kirkuk puppet regime operations bureau as saying that the bomb, which had been planted by the side of a road, severely wounded three puppet policemen who were taken to Kirkuk Teaching Hospital for treatment.
The source said that the bomb, which had been planted by the side of a side street near the as-Sadr Primary School, exploded by a puppet government car carrying five puppet policemen.  The car was destroyed and three of the puppet policemen were wounded.  Two private cars that happened to be nearby were also heavily damaged in the attack.

Puppet police station in western al-Mawsil attacked 
In a dispatch posted at 8:27pm Baghdad time Sunday night, the Yaqen News Agency reported that armed men attacked a puppet police station in western al-Mawsil 420km northwest of Baghdad on Sunday.
Yaqen reported a source in the puppet police as saying that fighters equipped with light arms and riding in two late-model cars attacked the puppet police station in al-Mawsil al-Jadidah, killing one puppet policeman and wounding three more of them.

Bombs target three christian churches in al-Mawsil, one day before orthodox christmas
In a dispatch posted at 4:35pm Baghdad time Sunday afternoon, the Yaqen News Agency reported that a bomb exploded by the entrance to a Catholic nunnery in the al-Mawsil al-Jadidah area of western al-Mawsil.  No injuries were reported in the blast – the third bomb attack on Christian religious targets in the northern Iraqi city on Sunday.
Yaqen reported Colonel Hajji Mahir, the Deputy Commander of the Iraqi puppet army’s 2nd Brigade as saying that the bomb was disguised as a cooking gas cylinder and was planted outside the door of the convent.  The blast caused heavy damage to the main door of the facility and blew out window glass in addition to damaging shops adjacent to the nunnery.
It was the third bomb to target a Christian religious target on the eve of celebrations of Christmas in the Eastern Orthodox Julian calendar.

Four people injured in car bombing of church in al-Mawsil sunday afternoon
Earlier, in a dispatch posted at 4pm Sunday afternoon, Yaqen reported that a car bomb had exploded by the entrance to the al-‘Adhra’ Maryam (Virgin Mary) Church in the ash-Shuhada’ neighborhood of eastern al-Mawsil in Sunday afternoon.
Yaqen reported a source in the puppet police as saying that the blast severely damaged the entrance to the Christian place of worship and injured four people. The blast also blew the glass out of the church windows and damaged four cars that happened to be in the area.

Car bomb near church in al-Mawsil causes no casualties
The first bomb attack on a church target in al-Mawsil Sunday was reported in a dispatch posted at 2:05pm.  In that bulletin, Yaqen said that a car bomb had exploded near the Mar Bulus (St. Paul) Church in the al-Muhandiseen neighborhood of northeastern al-Mawsil.  The blast damaged the outer wall of the church and broke glass in the building but caused no significant injuries, the source said.

Fire destroys Ba'shiqah oil refinery near al-Mawsil
In a dispatch posted at 10:55am Baghdad time Sunday morning, the Yaqen News Agency reported that the Ba‘shiqah oil refinery, located 30km northeast of al-Mawsil (which is 420km northwest of Baghdad) has been completely burned in a huge fire.
Yaqen reported a source in Ba‘shiqah as saying nothing about whether the fire was an accident or deliberately set but he confirmed that the blazed was still burning as of the time of reporting and that fire fighters and puppet civil defense units responded belatedly to the fire.

Collaborator "awakening" police reportedly battle al-Qaida in al-Mawsil
In a dispatch posted at 10:05am Baghdad time Sunday morning, the Yaqen News Agency reported puppet regime forces as claiming that fierce fighting with light arms took place between collaborator “Awakening” police together with puppet regime troops on one side and al-Qa‘idah gunmen on the other in the city of al-Mawsil, 420km northwest of Baghdad, Sunday morning.
Yaqen reported Major Muhammad al-Jabburi of the puppet regime as claiming that the “Awakening” collaborator force killed one of the al-Qa‘idah gunmen and wounded seven more of them, five of those slightly.
Major Hamad said that intelligence reports led the collaborators and puppet regime forces to a large cache of weapons located in at-Ta‘awun village to the southeast of al-Mawsil that contained several mortar rounds and a large quantity of land mines and RPG-7 rocket propelled grenades.
